Warm Thanksgiving Wishes

Dear Parents and School Community Members,

With Thanksgiving upon us, I write to express my gratitude for our talented, dedicated staff and generous volunteers who give so selflessly to serve our wonderful students. It is a privilege to contribute to a team effort focused on enhancing educational opportunities, and I am grateful for the support of our families and the wider Watchung community.

Last Friday, our students enjoyed a festive Friendsgiving celebration at Valley View, and today our Bayberry students enjoyed Philly pretzels at school, all made possible through the generosity of the Watchung Educational Foundation. Thank you to the WEF benefactors and all our kind volunteer organizations who infuse our schools with compassion and community spirit.

I also want to recognize and thank Mayor Balla and the Borough Council for allowing us to give an overview of the December 13 referendum at the council meeting on Monday night.

Thank you all for your ongoing support. On behalf of our Board of Education, I extend our warmest wishes to you and your family for a safe, healthy holiday.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Very truly yours,

George P. Alexis

As school security remains a top priority in our district and given the mass shootings in California this past week, I write to assure you we continue to take steps to enhance security in our schools.

Why is the Board of Education having a referendum?

The Board is committed to providing a first-rate educational experience for all students. In the development of its long-range facilities plan (LRFP), the board identified facility infrastructure and renovation projects that will allow the district to ensure the continued safe operation and maintenance of its school buildings and create new learning opportunities by transforming outdated rooms into 21st-century learning spaces.
